FOOD:
Any of the commercial mouse foods available at TFS work well (Oxbow or Vitacraft), just watch the amount of nut meats in the food as too much fat can lead to obesity.
For our Spinies we feed some wild bird seed mixed with some oats, and a bit of high quality cat food to add extra protein.

CAGING:
There are several options available for a cage, you need to make sure if you pick a wire cage, that the wire has small openings to prevent escape!
The Critter Trail and S.A.M cages are alot of fun, and are an excellent choice for spinies if there are no drafts and will be in a warm room, otherwise a 20 gallon aquarium with a tight fitting screen top is best.
Whatever you choose make sure you give them plenty of room to play. Heat lamps are not necessary, but they or a heating pad may be used to keep the temperature up if needed.

BEDDING:
Our top picks at TFS for bedding are the Gentle Touch pelleted aspen bedding (good stuff!), shredded aspen or non-aromatic pine bedding, Carefresh, and other recycled paper bedding. Please stay away from cedar, it can cause serious respiratory distress!

ACCESSORIES:
For water bottles we would go with an 8oz bottle, and since Spinies like to chew, probably the Lixit glass bottles would be ideal. A small stoneware crock seems to be best for food. You will want plenty of chew toys! TFS has a wide selection of these. For a hide-out the grass huts are good as are the small Super Pet igloos.
cardboard/wooden tubes and other play in/on items will give your pet (and you) enjoyment, try to stay away from the flimsy plastic accessories...they'll get eaten. You will also want to consider a wheel, the small Comfort Wheels or hamster wheels are excellent.
